Our Why

Hi!

If you have been following along with either of us for a while or have read through our About page, you likely know that our family lives in Central Florida as support-raised missionaries.

We have a few reasons for making this decision to live as local missionaries:

  • The Lord has used several people, sermons, podcast, and both closed- and open-doors to lead us in this direction

  • We have passions and skill sets that simply make sense to devote to ministry opportunities in our local context

  • We both feel as though we come alive when doing ministry

And more specifically:

  • We feel called to host those without community because we believe people are created to exist within community but our culture tends to operate in a way that cultivates isolated living and encourages work-a-holic behaviors, leaving many young adults in our context burnt-out and lonely.

  • We feel called to share the gospel in action and in word with those who may be in this country for employment or educational opportunities but come from countries where the gospel is rarely spoken.

  • We feel called to share our journey on the podcast because we believe in the power of testimony and we desire to share the ways God is moving in our hearts, minds, and lives.

  • We feel called to fundraise our salary because we believe God has made it clear to both of us and our close community that, in this season of our lives, we are meant to devote our time, energy, and resources to live as local missionaries with the financial support of others.

But ultimately:

  • Above any other reason, we feel called to this life of hosting, praying over, discipling and loving others because He first loved us.

We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

We created The Haven Collective because we desire to follow God’s command to love.
