Team Fox on Mission

During our first year of marriage, we determined that we want to be a “Family Team on Mission.” We learned about the concept from Jefferson Bethke, a speaker and author both of us enjoy learning from. He explains that christian families tend to take one of three approaches to family and mission:

  1. Family as mission - our family is the mission field and very little time or energy is spent on ministry or mission outside the family

  2. Family and mission - we have our family and we have our mission or ministry, and the two do not really interact or intersect

  3. Family on mission - our family is a united team, each member adds unique value, and we serve on mission together

We aspire to live as a family team on mission, united in the common goal of loving people in word and deed with the love of Christ. We believe that God has created each member of our family with unique personalities and gifts on purpose, knitting us together because we are better as a team than on our own as individuals.

The practicalities of how this will work will shift with our life seasons. Currently, it looks like bringing Ember along whenever we can (i.e. prayer walks, community nights, hosting in our home) and not stepping into very many missional opportunities where she would not be welcome.
